Patient surveys have shown that emotional stress is one of the leading triggers of rosacea's signs and symptoms. Especially as we head into the busy holiday season, here are some tips that may help you to cope.
- Learn to say no. Taking on more than you can handle is a sure-fire recipe for stress. Pare down your to-do list by dropping tasks that aren't true necessities.
- Make time for fun. Recharge your batteries by nurturing yourself. Set aside time each day, even if it's only a few minutes, to do something you enjoy, such as calling a friend, curling up with a good book or taking a walk.
- Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Try to eat more nutritiously, get an adequate amount of sleep each night and exercise regularly. (Go for low-impact or water aerobics if heavy exercise bothers your rosacea.)
- Take your meds. Take your meds. Faithfully following your prescribed therapy can help to maintain long-term remission of rosacea's signs and symptoms -- and fewer flare-ups may relieve yet another source of stress.
